Telecom Egypt has partnered with Huawei to advance its core network capabilities and improve voice services across Egypt. The collaboration focuses on implementing the largest fixed-network IMS in Africa, along with energy-efficient, cloud-native solutions to support the future growth of Voice over Broadband (VoBB) services.
The partnership has resulted in the successful deployment of the largest capacity IMS in Africa, serving 12 million VoBB subscribers and PBX services. The IMS, combined with cloud-native features, high availability, and high-performance Huawei self-produced servers, significantly reduces space and power consumption. The integration of ENUM functions with IMS ensures efficient routing and retrieval for IMS calling, enhancing overall network performance.
Telecom Egypt and Huawei also innovated an automated orchestrator for unified management across the network infrastructure, cloudOS, and IMS virtual network functions (VNFs). This system optimizes computing resource usage, ensuring improved balance and utilization for better network performance.
Eng. Mohamed Nasr, Managing Director and CEO of Telecom Egypt, highlighted the company’s commitment to integrating advanced technologies like Huawei IMS to enhance network performance, support smart connectivity, and improve digital services for Telecom Egypt’s customers and partners.
The collaboration also focuses on the introduction of the lightweight Session Border Controller (SBC), powered by bare-metal architecture. This solution streamlines IMS deployment, reduces infrastructure costs, and improves user experience, particularly in edge sites. By replacing legacy SBCs without the need for additional infrastructure, Telecom Egypt can roll out superior IMS voice services and improve service delivery.
