Kacific and Paksat International have partnered to bridge the digital divide in Pakistan by leveraging the Paksat-MM1 satellite’s 11 Ka-band spot beams. This collaboration aims to provide high-speed broadband access to remote regions, boosting mobile backhaul, backup connectivity, and supporting businesses, government agencies, ISPs, and telcos.
Pakistan’s broadband demand continues to grow, with over 131.8 million people still offline. The country’s fiber penetration remains low, with only 5% of homes connected. By bypassing infrastructure limitations, Kacific’s satellite service will enhance Pakistan’s mobile backhaul capabilities, offering cost-effective solutions compared to fiber.
Launched in May 2024, Paksat-MM1 promises 99% availability and seamless nationwide coverage. It includes gateway beams in major cities like Lahore, Karachi, and Islamabad, providing real-time monitored connectivity backed by 24/7 support from Kacific’s Singapore Operations Center.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif hailed the satellite launch as a significant milestone, underscoring its potential to revolutionize Pakistan’s digital landscape. The Minister of State for IT & Telecom, Shaza Fatima Khawaja, reiterated the government’s commitment to improving digital inclusion, particularly in underserved areas.
To support Pakistan’s connectivity needs, Kacific is introducing Gigstarter plans offering unlimited data and low-cost installation. These plans include entry-level and higher-speed options, billed per site, making them ideal for residential and business users. Kacific also plans to train and certify hundreds of distributors to ensure efficient installation and maintenance across Pakistan.
Kacific, a leading satellite operator, has already connected over 500,000 users in 25 countries. The company’s broadband model, which provides essential services such as satellite payload operations and network management, is designed to deliver reliable, affordable connectivity across Pakistan.
Muhammad Yousuf Khan, Chairman of SUPARCO, Pakistan’s national space agency, highlighted the partnership’s role in empowering communities and bridging the digital divide. Dr. Shahid Rasheed, CEO of PAKSAT, also emphasized the long-term impact on Pakistan’s economy and its ability to provide fast, affordable internet nationwide.
Christian Patouraux, CEO of Kacific, stated that the partnership represents a significant investment in Pakistan’s digital future, with ongoing efforts to meet the country’s growing connectivity needs.
