Orange and Eutelsat Partner to Bridge Digital Divide in Africa and the Middle East

Orange Africa and Middle East (OMEA) has partnered with Eutelsat to provide satellite-based broadband connectivity in underserved regions across Africa and the Middle East. This collaboration aims to connect remote areas, enhance digital inclusion, and offer high-speed internet access to both individuals and businesses.

As part of a multi-year initiative, Orange will leverage the EUTELSAT KONNECT satellite, which delivers advanced broadband technology, to offer reliable and affordable internet services. Initial deployments will target Jordan, Côte d’Ivoire, Senegal, and the Democratic Republic of Congo, with plans to extend to other countries in the region.

Combining Orange’s telecommunications expertise with Eutelsat’s satellite technology, the partnership will provide internet services with speeds of up to 100 Mbps. This will help cover white and rural areas, ensuring tailored services that meet local needs while adhering to national regulations. The collaboration also supports digital development and strengthens local ecosystems by improving connectivity across isolated territories.

Jérôme Hénique, CEO of Orange Africa and Middle East, emphasized that this partnership is a key part of Orange’s long-term vision to bridge the digital divide in the region, offering sustainable connectivity that respects local legislation and customer expectations. Michael Trabbia, CEO of Orange Wholesale, highlighted the importance of this collaboration in complementing Orange’s terrestrial networks with satellite connectivity solutions. Cyril Dujardin, President of Eutelsat’s connectivity business unit, stated that this partnership will tackle accessibility challenges and offer reliable, affordable connectivity for consumers and businesses.

Orange already uses Eutelsat’s KONNECT VHTS satellite to provide broadband services in France, and this new partnership will further expand its global reach in improving connectivity in Africa and the Middle East.
