The Nepal Telecommunications Authority (NTA) has announced that it will grant 5G permissions to telecom companies within a week after they submit their applications. NTA Chairman Bhupendra Bhandari made this announcement at a program organized by the Society of Economic Journalists-Nepal (SEJON) in Kathmandu on Wednesday.
Despite increasing concerns that telecom companies in Nepal are unprepared for 5G and lack the necessary infrastructure, the NTA clarified that it can issue 5G permits immediately once applications are submitted. Additionally, Bhandari mentioned that the required 21 MHz frequency could be provided to telecom companies.
Currently, Nepal Telecom has only conducted 5G testing and has not yet launched 5G services. Meanwhile, Ncell has stated that it has not begun 5G testing due to the significant investment needed in infrastructure.
