UAE Students Face Stress Over AI Tools, But Expect More Support from Schools

A recent study from Studiosity’s Student Wellbeing Report, conducted by YouGov, reveals that 94% of students in the UAE use AI tools for studying. However, many report experiencing tech-related stress, with concerns about AI providing incorrect information, plagiarism issues, and potential data leaks. The research also shows that 70% of students in the UAE expect AI support tools from their schools or universities, the highest expectation globally.

Baz Nijjar, Vice President – Education Technology and Digital Innovation at GEMS Education, highlighted the importance of workshops and training sessions to help students use AI responsibly, reducing the associated anxiety. Schools, in collaboration with partners like Microsoft, HP, and Intel, are working on incorporating AI literacy into the curriculum.

While AI tools are recognized for their potential to enhance personalized learning, concerns about AI-assisted plagiarism and over-reliance on technology remain. Educational leaders stress the importance of equitable access to AI tools and suggest that teaching students how and when to use AI effectively will help them use the technology responsibly, rather than fearfully.

Prof. Judyth Sachs, Chief Academic Officer at Studiosity, emphasized the need for students to have access to approved AI tools to reduce stress and ensure fair usage. The solution to these challenges lies in education and awareness, making AI a helpful tool in the classroom rather than a source of anxiety.

  • 94% of UAE students use AI tools, but many report stress related to their use.
