Johan Buse has been appointed as the new Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Banglalink, effective April 6. Buse, who previously led the business group at StarHub in Singapore, brings decades of experience in the telecom industry across Europe, Asia, and the Middle East.
He will succeed Erik Aas, who has served as Banglalink’s CEO for the past nine years. Aas led the company through significant milestones, including the development of 4G services and digital platforms such as Toffee, MyBL, and RYZE. Buse’s extensive background in telecom strategy and transformation is expected to drive Banglalink’s evolution from a traditional mobile operator to a leading digital service provider in Bangladesh.
Before his tenure at StarHub, Buse held senior roles at Ooredoo Oman, Deutsche Telekom Croatia, AXIS, and Singtel. His leadership is expected to be pivotal in accelerating Banglalink’s digital expansion, contributing to the country’s economic growth by offering innovative digital services.
VEON Group CEO, Kaan Terzioglu, expressed confidence in Buse’s ability to lead Banglalink in its next phase of growth, while also thanking Erik Aas for his exceptional leadership. Buse, for his part, shared his enthusiasm about leading Banglalink during a transformative period in Bangladesh’s digital landscape. He emphasized the opportunity to bridge the digital divide, foster innovation, and provide critical connectivity services to the population.
Buse’s appointment marks a new chapter for Banglalink as it aims to capitalize on VEON’s digital expertise and its world-class team to make a significant impact in Bangladesh.
