Nepal Telecommunications Authority Initiates Formation of Pricing Committee for Smart Telecom’s Dormant Assets

The Nepal Telecommunications Authority (NTA) has begun the process of forming a pricing committee to manage the assets of Smart Telecom, which has been inactive since its shutdown two years ago. The move follows the revocation of Smart Telecom’s license for basic telephone services in 2014.

The NTA issued a notice calling for applications to establish the committee, in accordance with Rule 13 of the Rules regarding Asset Management of Telecommunications Service Providers with Non-Existent Licences, 2022. The authority is seeking qualified individuals with at least 10 years of auditing experience and a Chartered Accountancy degree to apply.

Smart Telecom, once a prominent telecommunications provider in Nepal, has been non-operational since its license was revoked. The formation of the pricing committee aims to facilitate the management and assessment of its assets, marking a significant step in resolving the company’s dormant status.
