e& UAE, the telecom arm of e&, has become the first in the Middle East and Africa to deploy Ciena’s WaveLogic 6 Extreme (WL6e) on its optical network. This deployment boosts the network’s connectivity with ultra-high-speed 400G infrastructure, supporting 10 Gb home services and 100G/400G wholesale traffic. The integration enhances e&’s 5G network and optimizes infrastructure for AI data center hubs.
With WL6e’s advanced 3nm silicon technology, e& UAE is doubling its data transmission capacity per wavelength to up to 1.6 Tb/s, making significant strides in its network transformation. This upgrade supports e& UAE’s current digital services and prepares it for future AI-driven applications, reinforcing its role in driving digital transformation across the region.
Abdulrahman Al Humaidan, Senior Vice President of the Access Network Department at e& UAE, emphasized that this technology will enable sustainable scaling, ensuring seamless connectivity for current and future digital services. Pete Hall, Head of Middle East and Africa at Ciena, stated that WL6e positions e& UAE to lead the region’s digital evolution, particularly with 5G, cloud services, and AI demands.
