Zainab Abdul-Sahib, Director of the General Company for Post and Savings, announced on Wednesday that the Iraqi Ministry of Communications is actively working to attract global e-commerce giants Amazon and SHEIN to establish branches in Iraq.
In an interview with the state news agency (INA), Abdul-Sahib revealed that the necessary infrastructure, including facilities and warehouses, has already been set up to support the establishment of these international e-commerce companies in Iraq. The official also shared that the launch of an e-commerce platform in the country is now on the horizon.
The Iraqi government has developed plans for 2025, focusing on the continued development of Iraq’s digital economy following the completion of critical infrastructure by the Ministry of Communications.
As part of Iraq’s broader digital transformation efforts, the government began planning in 2023 to automate the country’s postal system, ensuring it stays aligned with global technological advancements. This initiative is part of a larger push to enhance the country’s digital services and e-commerce capabilities.
In recent years, Iraq has seen significant growth in e-commerce, driven by increased internet penetration and shifting consumer behavior. This rise in online shopping has created a growing demand for reliable e-commerce platforms, further highlighting the need for international companies to establish a presence in the country.
