Bangladesh Submarine Cables PLC Announces 10% Reduction in Internet Service Prices

Bangladesh Submarine Cables PLC announced a 10% reduction in the prices of all types of internet services, effective immediately. This decision was made during the company’s board meeting on Sunday.

Faiz Ahmad Taiyeb, Special Assistant to the Chief Adviser for Post, Telecommunications, and Information Technology, stated that the government is actively working to make internet access more affordable. Several initiatives have been introduced to reduce prices, including a reduction in wholesale prices. As a result, the price of all bandwidth at the international gateway level will decrease by 10%.

In addition, mobile companies will be provided with Dense Wavelength Division Multiplexing (DWDM) technology at the backbone level, which is expected to cut telecom companies’ transmission costs by 39%. Taiyeb noted that discussions with telecom operators are already underway, and it is anticipated that they will pass on a price reduction of up to 10% to consumers.

Furthermore, Taiyeb highlighted that Bangladesh is expected to connect to its third submarine cable, SIMUE-6, by mid-2026, which will further enhance internet connectivity in the country.
