Telecom Egypt has announced a major leadership change, appointing Lobna Helal as the new Chair of the Board, making history as the first woman to hold the position. Helal succeeds Dr. Magued Osman, who served as Chair for nine years, stepping down after his tenure from 2016. Helal, who has been an independent board member since March 2019, brings a wealth of experience to the role.
In addition to Helal’s appointment, the Board re-elected Mohamed Nasr as Managing Director and CEO for a second term, ensuring continuity in leadership as Telecom Egypt executes its strategic objectives.
Helal, who has more than 30 years of experience in the banking sector, previously served as Deputy Governor of the Central Bank of Egypt (CBE) for Monetary Stability Policies. She played a pivotal role in Egypt’s economic reforms, including managing monetary policy, reserve management, and banking sector restructuring. She also serves on the boards of several financial and development organizations, including the National Bank of Egypt (London) and Egypt’s Sovereign Wealth Fund.
In her new role at Telecom Egypt, Helal expressed her gratitude for the opportunity to serve as the first female chair, emphasizing her commitment to corporate governance, sustainable growth, and innovation. She highlighted her expertise in regulatory frameworks and financial restructuring as key assets that will help drive the company’s growth and strengthen its position as a telecom leader in the region.
Mohamed Nasr, upon his reappointment, expressed his thanks to the Board and reiterated his commitment to driving Telecom Egypt’s growth. He emphasized the company’s progress and digital transformation initiatives, noting his enthusiasm to collaborate with Helal and the Board in achieving new milestones for the company, particularly in its efforts to strengthen its position as a regional data hub.
