Egypt Hosts Second Freelancers Forum to Empower Youth in the Digital Economy

The Ministry of Communications and Information Technology organized Egypt’s second “Freelancers” forum at the Digital Egypt Creativity Center in Cairo. The event, themed “Freelance Work: 9-5 is No Longer the Only Option,” brought together freelancers to discuss ways to enhance the freelance sector and empower youth in the digital economy.

Attended by key government figures including Amr Talaat, the Minister of Communications and Information Technology, and Ahmed Kouchouk, the Minister of Finance, the forum served as a platform for young freelancers to share their experiences. Talaat emphasized Egypt’s Digital Strategy, which aims to equip citizens with digital skills and promote participation in the digital economy. He outlined the four pillars of the strategy: training programs, internet services improvements, workspaces for freelancers, and support incentives.

The Ministry has launched initiatives like the “Mahr Tak” platform and “Digital Egypt Pioneers” program to prepare professionals for freelance work. Additionally, internet speeds have increased significantly, making Egypt a leader in Africa. The Ministry also established Digital Egypt Creativity Centers across the country, providing freelancers with well-equipped workspaces.

Kouchouk, the Finance Minister, discussed new tax reforms, offering incentives for small businesses and freelancers, including tax exemptions and simplified tax declarations for projects with annual revenues up to 20 million EGP. Both ministers participated in a Q&A session addressing freelancers’ concerns and government efforts to boost digital skills and opportunities.
