MUSCAT: The Integrated Gas Company (IGC), Oman’s exclusive aggregator and supplier of natural gas, has introduced its new Gas Applications Portal, a digital platform designed to simplify the process for industries applying for and managing their natural gas requirements.
IGC CEO Abdul Rahman Humaid al Yahyaei called the launch a transformative step for the sector, emphasizing the portal’s potential to improve efficiency, transparency, and accessibility for both current and potential consumers.
“This portal represents a major milestone in Oman’s energy sector digitalization. By moving applications online, streamlining approval processes, and increasing transparency, we are making it easier than ever for businesses to access the energy they need to thrive,” Al Yahyaei told the Observer.
The platform introduces several user-friendly features, including the ability to submit multiple applications under a single account, track application status in real time, and interact directly with IGC representatives for support. Additionally, users can manage multiple projects from a centralized dashboard, and the portal is mobile-friendly, ensuring easy access from any location. By digitizing and centralizing these processes, IGC enhances consumer experience while optimizing natural gas allocation in alignment with Oman’s Vision 2040.
The portal supports not only standard applications but also spot sales and short-term gas supply auctions, facilitating quicker processing of industrial-scale requests. “This platform is not only improving customer experience but also enhancing the efficiency with which gas is allocated and used. It’s a key step toward maximizing the value of Oman’s natural gas resources while promoting a competitive and transparent market,” Al Yahyaei added.
The portal now serves as the primary access point for all industrial and non-industrial gas consumers, whether for long-term allocations or short-term supply. New local and international investors can now register and submit gas allocation requests digitally, eliminating the need for phone or email inquiries. This digital shift also reflects broader changes in Oman’s gas governance, with the responsibility for gas allocation having transitioned from the Ministry of Energy and Minerals to IGC upon the company’s formal establishment in December 2022.
Existing consumers can use the portal to apply for additional gas allocations for expansion projects or subsidiaries without creating new accounts. However, all applications will be assessed based on criteria that prioritize strategic contributions to Oman’s economy, such as job creation, GDP growth, decarbonization, SME development, and potential for future investment. To ensure fairness and transparency, IGC has developed new guidelines for evaluating applications, setting supply tariffs, and determining allocation sizes and durations in line with national economic priorities.
The portal also facilitates applications for spot gas sales, which have become a growing segment of Oman’s gas market. IGC completed its first such transaction last year and plans to leverage the portal’s capabilities for future opportunities in line with market evolution and revenue optimization goals.
Additionally, the portal supports Oman’s broader efforts to position the country as an investment hub, enabling investors to submit gas applications even while their projects are still in the permitting phase. Detailed information on standard gas sales agreements is available through the platform.
The portal is operated by a dedicated team from IGC’s commercial and contracts department, who are available to assist applicants and address any inquiries. The platform is now live and accessible at https://gasapplications.igcoman.om.
