Nepal Telecom Launches Optical Fiber-Based Information Highway to Improve Connectivity in Remote Areas

Nepal Telecom (NTC) has launched an optical fiber information highway from Manma, Kalikot, to Gamgadhi, Mugu, via Jumla, using All-dielectric self-supporting (ADSS) optical fiber technology. This new infrastructure will enhance NTC’s 4G mobile data and fiber broadband services in Kalikot, Jumla, and Mugu, helping to extend telecom services to more remote and rural regions of Nepal.

The ADSS technology used in the project does not require conductive metal components, making it easier and more economical to deploy. This development allows NTC to improve service quality and capacity, with future service expansions becoming more feasible. The installation of this optical fiber network also supports NTC’s future technology plans, providing a strong foundation for emerging technologies.

In addition to mobile and fiber services, NTC has also introduced its NT Fiber (FTTH) service and NT TV service to the areas of Kalikot, Jumla, and Mugu. Previously dependent on microwave backhaul, the network’s transition to optical fiber backhauling significantly improves service quality and reliability. NTC hopes this milestone will bring better connectivity to Nepal’s remote mountainous regions, offering customers higher capacity transmission and more reliable telecom services.

To ensure uninterrupted service, NTC has installed an alternative telecom route. With this expansion, NTC is committed to overcoming Nepal’s geographical challenges and delivering quality telecom services to all corners of the country. This development is a major step in enhancing the digital infrastructure of Nepal, bringing high-speed connectivity to previously underserved regions.
