Punjab Government Launches Thermal Imaging Technology for 24/7 Forest Surveillance

The Punjab government has introduced cutting-edge thermal imaging technology for continuous satellite monitoring of forests, enabling real-time detection of forest fires, illegal tree cutting, and other unauthorized activities. Punjab becomes the first province in Pakistan to implement such advanced technology for forest surveillance, following the directives of Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif.

This initiative has begun in the forests of Murree and Rawalpindi, with thermal imaging monitoring being conducted round the clock, including nighttime patrols. The technology detects temperature fluctuations and provides live feeds, allowing for precise monitoring of all forest activities. A dedicated team of artificial intelligence experts will oversee the implementation and operation of this project.

The thermal imaging system uses advanced algorithms for instant detection and helps in data processing, analysis, and report generation. Senior Provincial Minister Maryam Aurangzeb highlighted the importance of this technology for forest conservation, stating, “We will neither allow deforestation nor forest fires. Illegal hunting will also be prevented. Now, criminals will be caught using modern technology.”

Aurangzeb further emphasized that the system would not only protect forests but also contribute to crime prevention in urban areas across Punjab. This initiative plays a vital role in safeguarding forests, supporting agricultural, livestock, and fisheries development, and promoting afforestation efforts. Additionally, it aims to protect wildlife resources across the province.
