Nepal Telecommunications Authority Issues Warning Against Using Signal Boosters for Indian Mobile Services

The Nepal Telecommunications Authority (NTA) has issued a warning against the use of signal boosters to access Indian mobile services within Nepal. In a notice released on Sunday, March 30, 2025, the regulator emphasized that using such devices to amplify Indian telecom signals violates Nepal’s telecommunications regulations and warned that violators will face legal action.

Signal boosters are devices designed to enhance mobile signal coverage, especially in areas where signal reception is weak, such as basements, vehicles, and rural locations. While these boosters can improve call quality and mobile connectivity, their use to access foreign telecom services, such as Indian mobile networks, is prohibited in Nepal.

The NTA’s warning follows reports of signal boosters being used in border areas to access Indian telecom services. The use of these devices for foreign mobile services breaches the provisions of Section 3 of the Radio Act, 2014, and Section 21 of the Telecommunications Act, 2053.

The authority has made it clear that it will take strict action against individuals or groups involved in using signal boosters for Indian mobile services in Nepal. The NTA has urged the public to comply with local regulations to avoid legal consequences.
