Saudi Arabia’s transportation network saw record-breaking demand and performance during Ramadan, with the Haramain High-Speed Railway carrying over 1.2 million passengers, marking a 21% increase from last year, according to Dr. Rumaih Al Rumaih, Acting President of the Transport General Authority (TGA).
Dr. Al Rumaih attributed this achievement to the coordinated efforts between public and private stakeholders, ensuring smooth mobility and high-quality service for pilgrims, residents, and visitors. He emphasized the sector’s preparedness and operational efficiency in meeting the surge in demand.
Public transport buses carried more than 10 million passengers within Saudi cities during Ramadan, with Mecca and Medina accounting for 34% of the total ridership. The ride-hailing sector experienced significant growth, completing over 7.8 million trips, an 81% increase compared to last year. Additionally, car rental activity surged, with over 400,000 contracts signed, up 26% from the previous Ramadan.
The logistics sector also posted strong results, with over 20 million delivery orders fulfilled via mobile apps, and nearly a third of these orders coming from Makkah and Madinah. Furthermore, over 26 million shipments and postal parcels were delivered across the country, marking an 18% increase compared to the previous year.
Dr. Al Rumaih highlighted that these figures reflect not only the sector’s preparedness but also the effectiveness of ongoing regulatory efforts to improve service quality and operational standards. He reaffirmed the TGA’s commitment to supporting the Kingdom’s National Transport and Logistics Strategy, which is part of the broader Vision 2030 agenda.
He also extended his appreciation to both government entities and private sector partners for their contributions to the Kingdom’s Ramadan mobility plan, which played a critical role in enhancing the overall experience for Umrah pilgrims and visitors to the Two Holy Mosques.
