Algeria Takes a Major Step Toward 5G Deployment with Presidential Approval

Algeria is making significant strides in telecommunications with the approval of President Abdelmadjid Tebboune for the deployment of 5G technology. The President has ordered comprehensive studies to thoroughly examine the potential of 5G, highlighting the importance of careful preparation for this transformative project.

The decision was made during last Monday’s Council of Ministers meeting, where the President emphasized the need for detailed studies on fifth-generation (5G) mobile network technology. This move underscores the government’s commitment to ensuring that the deployment of 5G is technologically advanced, economically viable, and beneficial to the country.

The goal is to create a “comprehensive and effective” 5G operation, meeting the highest technological and financial standards. The government aims to maximize the benefits of 5G to bolster the national economy while providing citizens with access to the best technological services available.

This announcement follows an earlier statement during the government meeting on March 19, 2025, which had already underscored the preparations for launching 5G mobile networks in Algeria. The role of 5G was identified as a key driver for economic and industrial development, enhancing digital public services and accelerating Algeria’s digital transformation.

The advent of 5G in Algeria represents a technological revolution. With ultra-fast speeds, low latency, and massive connectivity potential, 5G promises to significantly enhance the country’s digital infrastructure. This technology is expected to bring about innovative applications in critical sectors such as agriculture, industry, health, transport, and education.

Embracing 5G is considered essential for positioning Algeria as a regional leader in information and communication technologies. The deployment of 5G is anticipated to drive economic growth and innovation, particularly in emerging fields like the Internet of Things (IoT), Artificial Intelligence (AI), and smart cities.

Additionally, the 5G rollout is expected to create new job opportunities, strengthen the digital infrastructure, improve industrial competitiveness, and meet the growing demand for connectivity.

To ensure the success of the implementation, the 5G rollout will be carried out gradually, ensuring the financial sustainability of operators and optimizing the investment costs associated with this major technological shift.
