Engro Holdings, one of Pakistan’s prominent conglomerates, is exploring potential investments in Bangladesh’s telecommunications and energy sectors. Abdul Samad Dawood, Vice Chairman and CEO of Engro, shared the company’s interest during a meeting with Chief Advisor Muhammad Yunus at the State Guest House Jamuna on Thursday.
Dawood conveyed Engro’s “deep interest” in expanding its footprint in Bangladesh, emphasizing the company’s optimism about the future of the country’s telecommunications industry. He also expressed Engro’s desire to collaborate on the distribution of gas from Bhola, as part of their vision to partner in the industrial sector.
Chief Advisor Yunus affirmed his administration’s commitment to supporting long-term, transformative investments. “We want to focus on long-term projects that will bring real change in the lives of our people,” Yunus stated.
Dawood is currently in Dhaka for a four-day investment conference organized by the Bangladesh Investment Development Authority (BIDA), where he noted his enthusiasm about the wide range of leading companies present. Yunus extended an invitation to Engro Holdings to return to Bangladesh for further discussions on investment opportunities across various sectors, highlighting the country’s potential for both regional and global investments.
“Our country has the potential to give a lot, not only for investment but also for the world,” Yunus concluded.
