Lebanon Unveils “LEAP” Initiative to Become Regional Tech Hub Powered by AI

Lebanon has launched a bold five-year digital transformation strategy under the title “LEAP,” with the aim of positioning the country as a regional tech hub powered by artificial intelligence. The initiative, backed by the Artificial Intelligence Ministry, aims to integrate AI across various government sectors, including Education, Justice, and Health, with pilot programs rolling out during the initial 100-day phase. The plan also focuses on passing new legislation, forming strategic partnerships, and organizing digital rights, aiming for Lebanon to become a leader in technology by its third year.

The success of the project hinges on cross-ministerial cooperation, and while the vision is ambitious, Lebanon faces challenges such as unreliable infrastructure, slow internet speeds, and the absence of data centers and clear regulatory frameworks. Despite these obstacles, the government is securing funding to address these gaps, with a strong focus on collaboration and sustained efforts. If successful, Lebanon could transform into a hub for innovation and digital talent by the end of the five-year period, achieving an inclusive digital economy.
