SLIIT’s Faculty of Computing hosted CODEFEST 2024, Sri Lanka’s premier national software competition, on January 24. Now in its 13th year, the event attracted over 4,000 participants from across the country. The competition, themed ‘Innovating the Future with Coding,’ featured 12 categories, showcasing talent from school and tertiary levels.
The event brought together 1,660 school students and 2,616 university students from more than 300 schools and 26 universities, including SLIIT, University of Moratuwa, and UCSC. Participants competed in various categories, with University of Moratuwa excelling in four categories. The event reinforced Sri Lanka’s goal of becoming Asia’s knowledge hub by nurturing coding talent.
The awards ceremony was attended by Chief Guest Waruna Sri Dhanapala, Acting Secretary of the Ministry of Digital Economy, along with other distinguished guests. Over one million rupees in cash prizes were awarded, with sponsorship from Deakin University, Sysco Labs, and other companies. The event was led by SLIIT’s Faculty of Computing leadership and coordinated by Dr. Samantha Rajapaksha.
CODEFEST continues to set the standard for technology competitions in Sri Lanka, contributing to the development of local talent and fostering innovation in the tech sector.
