Major General (R) Hafeez Ur Rehman, Chairman of the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA), met with Dr. Cosmas Luckyson Zavazava, Director of the International Telecommunication Union’s (ITU) Telecommunication Development Bureau (BDT), to review Pakistan’s telecom sector progress and discuss future digital growth and connectivity goals.
According to a PTA news release, the meeting focused on aligning Pakistan’s telecom sector with global best practices and identifying areas for international collaboration to further accelerate the country’s digital transformation. Dr. Zavazava expressed ITU’s full support for Pakistan, particularly in enhancing policy-making, regulatory frameworks, emergency communications, and disaster response systems.
Dr. Zavazava also shared ITU’s plans to launch specialized Artificial Intelligence (AI) training programs, starting with the development of master trainers to ensure widespread knowledge dissemination across Pakistan’s telecom sector. He praised PTA’s efforts in driving digital development and reaffirmed ITU’s commitment to assisting Pakistan through capacity-building initiatives, advanced technologies, and inclusive policy frameworks.
This meeting marked a key milestone in the strengthening of the partnership between PTA and ITU, as both organizations work collaboratively toward a smarter, more resilient, and connected digital future for Pakistan.
