Ericsson Expands Manufacturing in India, Strengthens Role in Global 5G Supply Chain

Ericsson Antenna System (EAS) is expanding its local manufacturing presence in India, making the country a strategic hub for innovation within Ericsson’s global network. By June 2025, the company plans to localize 100% of its passive antenna production for the Indian market.

This strategic move aims to accelerate time to market, foster deeper collaboration with local partners, and enhance the company’s ability to meet customer needs. Mikael Eriksson, Head of Ericsson Antenna System, emphasized that the expansion will allow Ericsson to deliver advanced technology quickly and closer to where next-generation networks are being built.

The expansion is particularly crucial as India accelerates its 5G rollout. In 2023, demand from Indian telecom giants Bharti Airtel and Reliance Jio surged, helping offset slower order growth from Ericsson’s largest market, the US. The passive antenna manufacturing will take place in Gurgaon, a technology and financial hub near New Delhi, in collaboration with local partner VVDN Technologies. VVDN is a global provider of software, product engineering, and electronics manufacturing services.

Ericsson’s logistics hub in Pune, Maharashtra, will support distribution and supply chain operations across the region. In addition to meeting domestic demand, a significant portion of the antennas produced in India will be exported, further cementing India’s strategic role in Ericsson’s global supply chain.

The expansion of EAS production in India will be managed by Ericsson’s teams and supported by a network of strategic suppliers.
