Bithumb Issues Security Warning After SK Telecom Data Breach

Bithumb, a leading cryptocurrency exchange in South Korea, has issued a security warning to its users following a data breach at SK Telecom, the country’s largest mobile carrier. The breach, caused by malware, raised concerns over potential risks to user accounts. Bithumb has strengthened its security protocols and is closely monitoring for any unusual activity.

In a statement, Bithumb announced that it is taking additional protective measures to prevent unauthorized access and has urged users to act promptly to safeguard their accounts. The exchange confirmed it is ramping up its monitoring and security efforts in response to the breach.

SK Telecom confirmed the data leak, which involved customers’ USIM-related data. The carrier detected the breach on April 19 and quickly removed the malware and isolated the suspected hacked devices. Although no misuse of the leaked information has been confirmed, SK Telecom has implemented preventive measures to block illegal SIM swaps and abnormal authentication.

SK Telecom is South Korea’s largest mobile carrier, with around 31.5 million mobile subscriptions, accounting for 37.5% of the nation’s total mobile subscriptions.
