In a groundbreaking move to address Pakistan’s fragmented healthcare system, Dr. Saira Siddique, a female doctor turned entrepreneur, has raised $6 million in funding to launch a healthcare tech start-up. Her journey, which began after a life-altering accident that left her temporarily paralyzed, has led to the creation of MedIQ, Pakistan’s first B2B virtual care platform.
MedIQ was launched in 2020 during the COVID-19 pandemic, with the goal of connecting insurers, corporations, and individuals—both urban and rural—to verified health service providers. After pitching to 163 investors, Dr. Siddique secured funding from Rasmal Ventures (Qatar) and Joa Capital (Saudi Arabia), and the platform quickly expanded into Saudi Arabia and Qatar.
MedIQ’s success began with an impressive 10,000 users within two months in Islamabad/Rawalpindi, and it now spans over 50 cities in Pakistan. The company partners with leading hospitals, insurers, and public health organizations to enhance healthcare access and efficiency.
The recent $6 million funding will support the company’s expansion into Saudi Arabia’s $1.92 billion (SAR 7.2 billion) health tech sector, aligning with Saudi Arabia’s Vision 2030 healthcare modernization goals. MedIQ’s proprietary, AI-driven platform connects healthcare providers, insurance firms, and patients, aiming to boost accessibility and patient satisfaction. Following success in Saudi Arabia, MedIQ plans to expand further into Qatar and other GCC markets.
MedIQ’s journey from seed funding of $3.8 million to becoming cash-flow positive in Pakistan and building a 10 million-strong customer base demonstrates strong product-market fit and signals exciting prospects for growth across the MENAP region. Dr. Siddique’s venture highlights the potential for innovative, tech-driven solutions to overcome challenges in healthcare systems, especially in emerging markets.
