Algérie Télécom marked its 22nd anniversary with two significant achievements: connecting over two million households to its fiber-to-the-home (FTTH) network and launching WiFi 7 at the iconic Hotel Aurassi—an Algerian first that strengthens the country’s position in the global tech arena.
The anniversary event was attended by several key government figures, including Sid Ali Zerrouki, Minister of Post and Telecommunications; Yacine El Mahdi Oualid, Minister of Vocational Training; Noureddine Ouadah, Minister of Knowledge Economy, Startups, and Micro-enterprises; and Meriem Benmouloud, High Commissioner for Digitization.
Zerrouki highlighted Algeria’s rapid progress, noting the increase in FTTH subscriptions from just 53,000 in early 2020 to over two million today. “This leap showcases how, with political will and the right expertise, Algeria can close the gap with the global digital economy,” he stated.
The event also unveiled a strategic project developed in partnership with Huawei and Algérie Télécom Business. The introduction of WiFi 7 is not just a technological milestone; it signals Algeria’s ambition to lead in digital innovation. With download speeds ranging from 1.6 to 2.1 Gbps and upload speeds between 1.3 and 1.5 Gbps, WiFi 7 is setting new standards for high-performance connectivity. The Hotel Aurassi now serves as a prime example of cutting-edge connectivity for both business and leisure travelers.
Adel Bentoumi, CEO of Algérie Télécom, remarked, “The WiFi 7 launch represents our commitment to innovation. It will provide users with faster, more reliable, and secure internet, advancing Algeria’s digital transformation.”
Algérie Télécom Business is now poised to extend this innovation to other key sectors, including hotels, airports, shopping centers, and transport hubs, empowering enterprises to enhance their digital infrastructure.
With these bold steps, Algérie Télécom reaffirms its mission to create world-class infrastructure, deliver future-proof connectivity, and drive Algeria’s digital transformation forward.
