A recent study by Telenor reveals that while Bangladeshis are increasingly adopting mobile technology and artificial intelligence (AI), concerns about online security remain significant. According to Telenor Asia’s Digital Lives Decoded (Bangladesh) report, seven out of ten mobile internet users in the country are worried about the security of their online accounts.
The report highlights how mobile technology is transforming daily life, from expanding access to education to integrating AI into routine tasks. Despite the growing benefits, Bangladeshis are particularly concerned about network attacks, with three in ten citing this as a top worry. This concern is notably higher compared to just one in five in Singapore and Thailand, and even fewer in Malaysia.
While mobile phones have empowered Bangladeshis by providing better education, workplace tools, and a sense of personal security, the report underscores the increasing fear of online threats. Despite these concerns, excitement about AI’s potential continues to rise. Six in ten mobile internet users express enthusiasm for the ways AI can improve daily life, with eight in ten positive about its impact on education.
The report also notes the increasing popularity of free AI tools in the workforce, though a gender gap persists in adoption. Only 37% of women use AI at work, compared to nearly 47% of male mobile internet users.
