PTA and NCCIA Conduct Successful Raid on Islamabad Telecom Franchise Over Illegal SIM Issuance

ISLAMABAD, May 8 (APP): The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) Zonal Office Lahore, in collaboration with the National Cyber Crime Investigation Agency (NCCIA) Gujranwala, successfully carried out a raid on a telecom franchise in I-10 Markaz, Islamabad, on May 8.

The operation uncovered the franchise’s involvement in the unlawful issuance of SIM cards. During the raid, authorities seized around 30,000 SIM cards, which were registered using 3,000 CNICs, along with digital fingerprints. The team also recovered six BVS devices, including two that had been misused for illegal activities, one laptop, and three mobile phones.

The Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) took immediate action by confiscating these items as evidence, while arresting two individuals, including the Franchise Manager, at the scene. A First Information Report (FIR) has been filed, and the NCCIA is continuing the investigation into the matter.

This operation is part of the PTA’s ongoing efforts to prevent the illegal issuance of SIM cards and misuse of the Multi-Finger Biometric Verification System (MBVS), underscoring its commitment to maintaining the integrity of telecommunications services in Pakistan.
