Bangladesh’s internet subscriber base has rebounded after eight consecutive months of decline, with the addition of 750,000 new users in March, according to the latest data from the Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission (BTRC). This recovery follows a meager increase of just 10,000 users in February, after a significant loss of 11.57 million subscribers between June 2024 and January 2025.
In March, 190,000 new users were mobile internet subscribers, while 560,000 were broadband users. BTRC updates broadband user data quarterly, reflecting the typically low churn rate in fixed broadband connections, which is affected by the large number of internet service providers (ISPs) and long-term subscriber commitments.
In contrast, the number of mobile phone subscribers continued to decline in March, with a loss of 460,000 users. Among the country’s mobile operators, Grameenphone saw no loss in its customer base, while Robi lost 30,000 subscribers, Banglalink 410,000, and state-run Teletalk 20,000.
BTRC defines a mobile subscriber as a biometric-verified user who has engaged in at least one activity (voice, data, SMS, etc.) in the past 90 days, while internet subscribers are those who have accessed the internet at least once during the same period.
