Dialog Axiata Introduces Real-Time School Van Tracking Service for Enhanced Safety and Efficiency

Sri Lankan telecom company Dialog Axiata has unveiled a new location-tracking service designed specifically for school vans, aimed at improving both student safety and transportation efficiency.

Launched on Thursday, the Dialog Suraksha School Van Location Tracker is a collaboration with The Connection Workshop, a subsidiary of South Asian Technologies. This new solution is being marketed to school van operators as part of Dialog’s Suraksha parental control service.

By leveraging GPS technology and Dialog’s 4G network, the service allows parents and guardians to monitor the real-time location of school vans, receiving notifications and shared access. Through the TeDi Fleet app, up to two family members can track the van’s position and receive SMS alerts for key events, including van arrivals and departures at predefined locations like school and home.

The service also offers significant benefits for school van operators, helping them to provide a more reliable, accountable service, fostering trust with parents, and streamlining their operational processes.

For the service to be used, school van operators must purchase and install the tracking device in each vehicle. The device is plug-and-play and easy to install, with a price of LKR18,990 (about US$63) per device, along with an annual subscription fee of LKR1,910 plus tax.

Dialog emphasized that the solution has been approved by the Telecommunications Regulatory Commission of Sri Lanka (TRCSL). This new launch follows the successful rollout of a similar smart tracking solution for vehicle and fleet monitoring by Dialog and The Connection Workshop in July 2024.
