Orange Jordan has made history as the country’s first telecommunications provider to offer satellite broadband services to both consumers and businesses, using the Eutelsat Konnect satellite. This milestone follows a strategic multi-year agreement between Orange and Eutelsat, aimed at enhancing satellite internet access across Africa and the Middle East.
The service provides high-speed internet with download speeds of up to 100 Mbps, even in the most remote areas of Jordan. According to Eutelsat, the launch of the KVHTS (Ka-band Very High Throughput Satellite) service is a significant step towards expanding reliable digital connectivity to underserved regions, particularly in off-grid or isolated areas. The technology plays a key role in bridging the global digital divide by offering flexible solutions to areas where traditional infrastructure is absent.
This initiative is part of a broader regional deployment strategy under the Orange-Eutelsat partnership, which also includes Côte d’Ivoire, Senegal, and the Democratic Republic of Congo, with plans to extend satellite connectivity to all Orange-served markets in the region. The goal is to drive digital inclusion and provide essential online services to more people across the Middle East and Africa.
Jérôme Hénique, CEO of Orange Africa and the Middle East, emphasized the strategic importance of the partnership, aligning with Orange’s mission to provide connectivity and support digital equity across the region. Serving over 160 million customers, Orange is committed to delivering sustainable and locally compliant solutions.
Cyril Dujardin, President of Eutelsat Group’s Connectivity Business Unit, highlighted the synergy between Eutelsat’s satellite infrastructure and Orange’s regional presence. He noted that this collaboration offers an affordable solution to address accessibility challenges, particularly in areas with limited or no traditional internet infrastructure.
With the launch of this satellite broadband service, Orange Jordan sets a new benchmark for the country’s telecommunications sector, offering high-speed internet access to previously underserved areas and paving the way for broader regional connectivity.
