The government of Bangladesh is making substantial strides in eliminating digital inequality by enhancing internet and device access, particularly for women and rural communities, according to Faiz Ahmad Taiyeb, Special Assistant to the Chief Adviser overseeing the Ministry of Posts, Telecommunications and Information Technology.
During a press conference at the Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission (BTRC) Bhaban in Agargaon, held in celebration of World Telecommunication and Information Society Day, Taiyeb outlined the ongoing efforts aimed at ensuring citizens can easily access government services through their mobile phones.
He highlighted that these efforts align with Goal 10 of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), which focuses on reducing inequality, a vision that resonates with this year’s theme for World Telecommunication and Information Society Day.
Taiyeb pointed out that women’s involvement in digital governance and access to digital platforms remains insufficient, with many still lagging in key areas. The government is committed to closing this gap, focusing on empowering women through enhanced digital inclusion.
He urged media outlets to amplify awareness and collaborate in bringing marginalized groups into the digital fold, emphasizing the collective effort needed for true digital inclusion.
