United Arab Emirates tech firm G42 has entered a partnership with Italian artificial intelligence startup iGenius to develop a major AI supercomputer project named Colosseum in southern Italy. The $1 billion project will be executed over five years using Nvidia technology and is set to become Europe’s largest AI computer deployment.
This initiative is part of a broader $40 billion UAE investment pledge to Italy, announced during a bilateral summit earlier this year. G42 will finance the initial phase of the project, which aims to establish a leading AI hub, likely in Italy’s Apulia region, as highlighted by Italy’s Industry Minister Adolfo Urso.
G42’s ownership includes Abu Dhabi’s sovereign wealth fund Mubadala, the UAE ruling family, and U.S. private equity firm Silver Lake, reflecting significant international backing.
