Aluminium Bahrain (Alba) Launches EternAl-AC: Pioneering Verified Low-Carbon Aluminium with Internal Carbon Offsets

Aluminium Bahrain (Alba), the world’s largest single-site aluminium smelter, has expanded its EternAl™ low carbon product portfolio with the launch of ‘EternAl-AC’ — an innovative product series featuring verified carbon offsets directly generated from Alba’s own operational efficiency projects.

EternAl-AC provides customers with a uniquely transparent and credible route to meeting carbon reduction targets. By purchasing aluminium from this product line, customers gain access to traceable, third-party verified greenhouse gas (GHG) offsets arising from Alba’s internal sustainability initiatives, ensuring authenticity and accountability in emissions reductions.

The EternAl-AC range incorporates a tiered carbon reduction classification system, spanning from EternAl-AC0, which represents a net-zero carbon footprint, to AC4, allowing up to 4 tonnes of CO₂ equivalent emissions per tonne of aluminium. This flexible framework enables customers to select low-carbon solutions best suited to their sustainability goals, with clear, verifiable data supporting each choice.

Crucially, the embedded carbon offsets are a direct consequence of GHG savings from Alba’s in-house projects, which are rigorously measured and documented under internationally recognized standards such as ISO 14064-2. Independent third-party verification guarantees the integrity of these emissions reductions.

Alba’s CEO, Ali Al Baqali, described the introduction of EternAl-AC as a market “game-changer” for low-carbon aluminium. He emphasized, “By embedding verified carbon offsets generated directly from our own operational improvements, we are offering our customers an unparalleled level of transparency and confidence in their sustainability journey, providing a distinct advantage in a world increasingly focused on carbon accountability. This initiative underscores our proactive commitment to reducing our environmental footprint and empowering our partners to achieve their net-zero ambitions.”

Highlighting market interest in sustainable aluminium, Alba welcomed Alueuropa, a leading Spanish aluminium extruder, as the inaugural customer for the EternAl-AC series, signaling rising global demand for environmentally responsible metal products.
