Egypt’s four mobile network operators have collectively invested $2.7 billion in 5G spectrum and licenses since 2019, showcasing strong investor confidence in the country’s digital strategy, said Minister of Communications and Information Technology Amr Talaat at the 5G Technology Forum in Cairo. Talaat described 5G as a transformative leap reshaping how people live, work, and connect.
Organized by Moharram & Partners, the forum attracted ambassadors and representatives from the US, EU, Japan, and major tech companies, emphasizing international cooperation and investment opportunities. US Ambassador Herro Mustafa Garg highlighted the critical role of 5G in building reliable, secure networks to support smart cities and advanced healthcare.
Sherif El-Badawy, CEO of Moharram & Partners, called the forum a strategic platform uniting government and industry leaders to accelerate Egypt’s 5G rollout and position the nation as a regional digital innovation hub. Key tech players like Ericsson, Nokia, Intel, IBM, Cisco, and Rakuten Symphony participated.
Ericsson’s VP Kevin Murphy emphasized their commitment to building future-ready networks and boosting regional 5G and cybersecurity collaboration. Telecom Egypt CEO Mohamed Nasr noted the company’s pioneering role in obtaining a 5G license via its retail brand WE and plans to expand services to meet evolving customer needs.
