Thndr Raises $15.7 Million Led by Prosus Ventures to Expand Across MENA and Launch New Investment Products

Cairo-based digital investment platform Thndr has secured $15.7 million in a funding round led by Prosus Ventures, bringing total capital raised to $37.76 million. Other participants include Y Combinator, BECO Capital, Endeavor Catalyst, JIMCO, Raba, and Onsi Sawiris. The fresh capital will fuel Thndr’s regional expansion into the UAE and Saudi Arabia and support the launch of new products tailored to both beginner and professional investors.

Founded in 2020 as part of Y Combinator’s Summer batch, Thndr aims to democratize investing across the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) by offering commission-free trading with no account minimums. The platform enables users to invest in stocks, bonds, mutual funds, and gold. In 2024, Thndr facilitated over $3.4 billion in trades and onboarded more than one million users, many of whom were first-time investors outside major cities.

Recently, Thndr introduced two new platforms: Thndr Alpha, a guided investing tool for beginners, and ThndrX, a high-performance trading platform for experienced investors. The company also announced plans to apply for an asset management license in Egypt to offer proprietary financial products catering to local market needs.

Thndr’s regional expansion began in 2024 with the acquisition of a Category 3A license with retail endorsement from the Abu Dhabi Global Market (ADGM) Financial Services Regulatory Authority, enabling its entry into the UAE. The company is now preparing to replicate its success in Saudi Arabia by building trusted, locally relevant investment platforms.

Sandeep Bakshi, Head of Investments, Europe at Prosus Ventures, praised Thndr’s mission: “Thndr is transforming access to investing across MENA by empowering first-time investors with the tools and confidence to participate in the financial system. Their rapid growth, particularly among young and underserved populations, underscores both the strength of their leadership and the company’s broader mission.”
