SpaceX’s Starlink Launches Satellite Internet Service in Bangladesh, Offering High-Speed Connectivity

In a significant boost for Bangladesh’s internet sector, SpaceX’s satellite internet service Starlink officially launched operations in the country on May 20. The announcement was made through Starlink’s official X (formerly Twitter) page, confirming its entry into the Bangladeshi market.

Faiz Ahmad Taiyeb, special assistant to the chief adviser, detailed the offerings: Starlink will provide two residential packages—Starlink Residence at Tk6,000 per month and Residence Lite at Tk4,200 per month—with a one-time installation fee of Tk47,000. Both plans offer unlimited data with speeds up to 300 Mbps, targeting users in areas underserved by traditional broadband.

Starlink’s arrival aims to deliver uninterrupted, high-speed internet connectivity across Bangladesh, benefiting businesses, NGOs, freelancers, and entrepreneurs, especially in remote or underserved regions. Taiyeb highlighted the service as a sustainable alternative for premium customers and an enabler for business expansion in areas lacking reliable connectivity.

The interim government has authorized Starlink as a non-geostationary orbit satellite internet provider. This approval also supports internet resilience during political unrest, following last year’s internet shutdowns amid protests.

Starlink’s launch marks a new era in Bangladesh’s digital landscape, providing reliable, high-speed internet access even in times of political volatility.
