Bahrain National Broadband Network (BNET), the Kingdom’s leading broadband service provider, has successfully completed its inaugural comprehensive assessment of risk culture and employee behaviors toward risk management within the organization. This milestone underscores BNET’s commitment to advancing its risk management capabilities and fostering a proactive risk-aware environment across the enterprise.
Conducted in collaboration with Deloitte, involving expert teams from the Middle East and Australia, the assessment utilized a multi-dimensional approach to thoroughly understand BNET’s organizational risk culture. Central to the process was a customized employee survey designed to capture detailed insights into staff awareness, attitudes, and behaviors concerning risk identification and open discussion.
In addition to the survey, Deloitte undertook a rigorous review of BNET’s existing risk management policies and frameworks to identify strengths and potential areas for enhancement. Complementing this, a series of interviews and discussions were held with employees across various levels, revealing critical factors that influence risk-related behaviors throughout the organization.
The assessment culminated in a dedicated workshop with BNET’s senior leadership team, where findings were analyzed and action plans formulated to strengthen enterprise-wide risk management practices.
Ahmed Alfadhel, Director of Strategy and Corporate Performance at BNET, highlighted the importance of this initiative: “Given BNET’s pivotal role in managing Bahrain’s broadband network, conducting a thorough risk assessment focusing on behavioral aspects is of paramount importance. With Deloitte’s support, this assessment revealed a work environment that encourages open dialogue about risks. Most employees feel secure discussing risks related to their work, proactively enhancing management and mitigation efforts.”
Building on these insights, BNET has developed a comprehensive roadmap to achieve its targeted risk management maturity, reinforcing its mission to deliver a secure and resilient broadband network for Bahrain.
Rushdi Kikhia, Partner at Deloitte Middle East, praised BNET’s proactive stance: “We are pleased to support BNET in its risk culture transformation. Successful risk cultures evolve from reactive responses to active engagement, supported by mature practices in risk identification and mitigation. BNET’s initiative to foster strong risk awareness and positive attitudes among employees was fundamental to this project’s success.”
Kikhia emphasized the critical role of risk culture: “A robust risk culture enables organizations to anticipate and address risks effectively at all levels. The insights from this assessment provide a solid foundation for strengthening BNET’s risk management practices and cultivating an environment where employees feel empowered to raise and discuss risks that could impact organizational objectives.”
