On May 26, 2025, Egypt’s Minister of Electricity and Renewable Energy, Mahmoud Esmat, met with Algeria’s Ambassador to Cairo, Mohamed Sofiane Berrah, to strengthen cooperation and identify investment opportunities in the electricity and renewable energy sectors.
The discussions centered on advancing high-voltage transmission lines, enhancing distribution networks, and building transformer stations to modernize Algeria’s power infrastructure. Both parties emphasized clean energy initiatives, focusing on localizing the manufacturing of renewable energy equipment and leveraging Egyptian expertise to expand renewable capacity, reduce reliance on fossil fuels, and lower carbon emissions.
Algeria expressed keen interest in partnering with Egyptian firms for electricity grid development and boosting exports of Egyptian electrical equipment to support its decarbonization goals and energy transition efforts.
