AMMAN — Despite the rise of social media and messaging apps, SMS continues to hold a vital place in Jordan’s digital communication landscape, offering significant economic value across sectors like banking, delivery, e-commerce, and healthcare. Experts note that SMS messages boast high read rates, making them a trusted channel for direct consumer engagement.
According to the Telecommunications Regulatory Commission (TRC), 1.434 billion text messages were sent via mobile networks in 2024—up 27% from the previous year. This growth is driven by business reliance on SMS for OTPs, payment reminders, delivery confirmations, and marketing campaigns, especially during peak seasons like the end of 2024.
With approximately 119.5 million messages sent monthly by Jordanians, SMS maintains its edge due to high delivery rates and compatibility across all mobile devices. The surge aligns with Jordan’s growing mobile subscriber base, which reached 8 million by the end of 2024, mostly prepaid.
Industry professionals affirm that SMS remains an effective business tool, adapting alongside Jordan’s digital transformation ambitions and evolving communication needs.
