Zain Omantel International (ZOI) has announced a strategic partnership with Horizon Scope Telecom, Iraq’s leading ICT solutions provider, and the Iraqi Telecommunications and Information Company (ITPC), a government-owned entity, to establish a high-capacity digital telecommunications corridor linking the Middle East to Europe through Iraq.
This new terrestrial fibre route, leveraging Iraq’s geographic position as a digital gateway, will traverse Turkey and extend to Frankfurt, Germany. It offers a secure, efficient, and reliable alternative to traditional subsea cables, reducing susceptibility to disruptions while providing low-latency connectivity for international businesses, telecom operators, and hyperscalers.
Horizon Scope Telecom, a licensed Iraqi ISP, will manage direct network peering and interconnection with global internet exchanges to boost speed and capacity. ITPC will ensure regulatory compliance and uphold security standards, facilitating seamless connectivity along the route.
ZOI CEO Sohail Qadir emphasized the collaboration’s role in enhancing regional and global connectivity, aligning with ZOI’s mission to bridge markets and drive digital transformation. ITPC Director General Ali Y. Dawood hailed the partnership as a milestone that strengthens Iraq’s status as a key connectivity corridor, fostering economic growth for enterprises locally and internationally.
