Jordan and Syria have agreed to strengthen collaboration in telecommunications and information technology following a virtual meeting between Jordan’s Minister of Digital Economy and Entrepreneurship Sami Samirat and Syria’s Minister of Communications and Technology Abdel Salam Haykal.
The discussion focused on activating a regional fiber-optic corridor by linking Syrian and Jordanian networks, aiming to establish Jordan as a strategic transit hub for internet and telecom traffic with a capacity of up to 100 terabytes. This initiative is expected to enhance regional connectivity and service sustainability.
Both countries emphasized Jordan’s role as a critical passage for internet traffic transiting through Syria toward southern destinations. To further cooperation, the ministers agreed to organize a technical forum in Damascus, gathering private-sector companies from both nations to foster business partnerships and investment opportunities.
Minister Samirat will lead the Jordanian delegation to the forum, featuring key players in fiber-optic systems, digital platforms, and infrastructure development. Jordan also committed to supporting Syria’s ICT growth through technical expertise and encouraging Jordanian firm participation in future projects.
The coordination between the two countries will continue under the Higher Coordination Council, established via a memorandum of understanding signed in Damascus on May 20.
