Casablanca – Morocco has taken a significant leap toward establishing itself as a digital hub with a new strategic partnership between Technopark Morocco and the global innovation platform Plug and Play Tech Center. The signing ceremony took place at Technopark’s headquarters in Casablanca, supported by Morocco’s Ministry of Digital Transition and Administration Reform (MTNRA) alongside the Ministry of Economy and Finance. This collaboration aligns with the government’s broader Maroc Digital 2030 strategy aimed at accelerating digital transformation and economic diversification.
Bridging Gaps in Morocco’s Startup Ecosystem
Morocco’s startup ecosystem has expanded rapidly in recent years, but entrepreneurs often highlight persistent challenges, notably limited access to robust international networks and late-stage funding opportunities. Plug and Play, renowned for early investments in global giants like Dropbox and PayPal, offers both capital and extensive global connections. Since 2001, Technopark has developed deep local expertise, nurturing over 1,800 startups spanning information technology, green technology, and creative industries.
The partnership aims to deliver comprehensive support including hands-on coaching, pilot project opportunities with major corporations, and critical investor introductions both within Africa and internationally. This initiative is designed to accelerate startup growth, foster innovation, and attract more investment into Morocco’s burgeoning tech scene.
Leadership Perspectives
Aziz El Hachem, Co-Director Africa at Plug and Play Tech Center, emphasized the importance of this alliance during the signing event: “As a global leader in innovation and investment, committed to the Moroccan technology ecosystem since its inception and convinced of its potential, this partnership with the Technopark allows us to strengthen our commitment.” He highlighted the synergy between Plug and Play’s global reach and Technopark’s local grounding as a powerful catalyst for Moroccan startups to scale and compete on a global stage.
