South Africa Partners with UAE to Launch National Satellite, Boosting Digital Infrastructure

South Africa is set to enhance its space capabilities and digital infrastructure through a strategic partnership with the United Arab Emirates (UAE) to launch a dedicated national satellite. Deputy Minister of Communications and Digital Transformation, Mondli Gungubele, confirmed the initiative, which builds on a recently signed memorandum of understanding (MoU) between the two countries in Dubai.

The MoU signing was attended by senior officials and inaugurated by Sheikh Nahyan bin Mubarak Al Nahyan, UAE Minister of Tolerance and Coexistence, under the patronage of the Telecommunications and Digital Government Regulatory Authority (TDRA).

Gungubele praised the UAE’s advanced infrastructure and sectors such as transportation and communications, noting that the partnership demonstrates how progress stems from determination and commitment rather than background or circumstances.

This collaboration marks a significant milestone in South Africa’s efforts to develop technological capacity and strengthen its role in the global digital ecosystem through international cooperation.
