Egypt to Launch 5G Mobile Services on June 4, Accelerating Digital Transformation

Egypt is set to officially launch 5G mobile services on Wednesday, June 4, marking a significant milestone in the country’s ongoing digital transformation. The National Telecommunications Regulatory Authority (NTRA) confirmed that Vodafone Egypt, Orange Egypt, e& Egypt, and Telecom Egypt will begin offering 5G services following a combined investment of USD 2.7 billion in spectrum and licenses since 2019.

The launch event will be held near the Pyramids, with Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly and key cabinet members expected to attend. The introduction of 5G aims to deliver ultra-high-speed connectivity, support smart city initiatives, and foster advancements in healthcare, infrastructure, and IoT ecosystems by enabling massive simultaneous device connections.

Minister of Communications and Information Technology Amr Talaat emphasized that 5G adoption will significantly enhance Egypt’s digital economy and elevate its global ICT standing. The final 5G licenses were awarded in October 2024, including a USD 675 million deal involving Vodafone, Orange, and e& Egypt, complementing Telecom Egypt’s earlier agreement.
