Bank al Etihad has announced a new partnership with Berlin-based fintech ecolytiq and global payments leader Visa to introduce a carbon insights tool within its mobile banking app. This initiative reinforces the bank’s dedication to sustainability through digital innovation, enabling customers to track their carbon footprints based on debit and credit card transactions.
The tool leverages localized data tailored to Jordan and covers a wide range of lifestyle categories, providing personalized insights into customers’ consumption habits and environmental impact. By visualizing their carbon emissions, users are empowered to make more responsible, greener choices.
Nadia AlSaeed, CEO of Bank al Etihad, emphasized, “Awareness is the first step towards change. We aim to encourage customers to adopt sustainable behaviors and contribute to global climate efforts.” Mario Makary, Vice President and Levant Cluster Manager at Visa, highlighted the collaboration as part of Visa’s commitment to innovative, sustainable financial solutions.
David Lais, Co-Founder and Managing Director of ecolytiq, praised Bank al Etihad’s leadership in embracing sustainability, noting the partnership’s role in promoting eco-conscious behaviors in the Levant region.
Beyond the carbon insights tool, customers will access climate education content and sustainable living tips to foster environmentally friendly lifestyles. This initiative aligns Bank al Etihad with global climate goals such as the Paris Agreement and Jordan’s Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs), underlining its commitment to supporting the transition to a low-carbon economy.
