Pakistan Accelerates 5G Launch with Infrastructure Upgrades and Policy Reforms

Pakistan is rapidly advancing toward the launch of 5G services through significant infrastructure upgrades, regulatory reforms, and international collaboration, according to the Pakistan Economic Survey 2024-25. The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) has initiated foundational steps, including crafting new policies to attract investment and streamline telecom operations.

Telecom operators are enhancing their systems and expanding fiber optic networks to meet 5G’s high-speed and low-latency requirements. PTA has allocated E-band spectrum to mobile companies for 5G readiness trials, which are currently underway.

The government has formed an advisory committee to oversee the release of International Mobile Telecommunication (IMT) spectrum, with the Frequency Allocation Board approving spectrum bands for upcoming auctions. PTA has also engaged an international expert to guide the auction process and develop a robust implementation strategy.

These coordinated efforts aim to usher Pakistan into the 5G era, promising faster internet, economic growth, and new technological opportunities.
