Phantom Atlas Hacks Algeria’s Telecom Backbone, Escalating North African Cyber Conflict

Doha — Moroccan hacker group Phantom Atlas struck a significant blow to Algeria’s telecommunications infrastructure by accessing and revealing detailed internal network maps of Algérie Télécom, the country’s state-owned internet and telephone provider. The group shared the sensitive data on their Telegram channel, exposing network routes across key Algerian provinces including Tizi Ouzou, Boumerdès, and Bouira.

The leaked information includes critical infrastructure details such as Broadband Network Gateway access points, central routers, content distribution rings, data consumption by local communes, and the interconnections linking Algeria’s national networks to international servers. This breach intensifies ongoing cyber tensions between the two North African neighbors, highlighting vulnerabilities in Algeria’s telecom sector.
