MUSCAT – In a pioneering move for aerial logistics, Omani AI and autonomous systems provider Esbaar is preparing to introduce heavy-duty drone-based cargo delivery services across key sectors in Oman. The company aims to roll out this innovative service before the end of 2025.
Esbaar, which pioneered drone inspection and survey services in Oman since 2017, has been developing advanced unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) capable of transporting payloads ranging from 500 grams up to 700 kilograms, said Hamadi Ben Ftima, Cargo Drones Project Manager.
“Our drone service offers a modern solution to logistics challenges by operating above traffic and difficult terrain at any time, including remote or urgent areas. This will help customers expand operations, reduce downtime, lower carbon emissions, and meet business goals,” Ben Ftima explained.
Initially, the service will cover an operational area including Haima, Qarn Alam, Adam, Nizwa, and Muscat. Esbaar plans to establish centralized hubs for drone payload collection and delivery, with locations and flight routes tailored to customer needs currently under negotiation.
The company is targeting sectors such as oil and gas, renewable energy, mining, agriculture, fisheries, healthcare, emergency response, and offshore operations like oil rigs and platforms.
Esbaar currently operates a fleet of about 30 drones mainly used for inspection, surveying, and 3D modeling. The drones fly under Visual Line of Sight (VLOS) and Beyond Visual Line of Sight (BVLOS) regulations. BVLOS permits operation beyond direct pilot visibility, enabling long-range and remote missions.
To prepare for the cargo service, Esbaar has conducted extensive BVLOS flight training and expects to create new jobs for Omanis trained in drone operation, logistics hub management, and support services.
The service launch timeline depends on finalizing customer contracts, operational planning, and receiving approval from Oman’s Civil Aviation Authority (CAA). The company aims to debut Oman’s first drone cargo delivery service before year-end.
