Doha — Coursera, the global online learning platform, announced a 194% year-over-year increase in Generative AI (GenAI) course enrolments and a 55% growth in professional certificate enrolments in Qatar. This surge highlights the country’s rising demand for flexible, job-relevant skills aligned with its national transformation goals.
Qatar now leads the Arab world in technology and data science skills, scoring 64% proficiency in each area, and excels in business skills with a 72% score. These achievements support Qatar’s Digital Agenda 2030, which targets a 10% boost in professional competencies and aims to grow the ICT sector to 3.5% of non-oil GDP by decade’s end.
According to Coursera’s 2025 Global Skills Report, Qatar ranks 3rd in the MENA region for overall skills proficiency and has risen to 40th place globally—up from 76th in 2023 and 58th in 2024—reflecting its push toward a diversified, knowledge-based economy and a future-ready workforce.
Drawing from data across over 170 million learners worldwide, the report highlights Qatar’s rising skill proficiencies and identifies ongoing gaps, illuminating trends in learner behavior across 100+ countries.
